The City of Verona and the Louvre Museum organized an exhibition dedicated to Camille Corot, great master of the French nineteenth century at the Gran Guardia Palace in Verona from 27th November 2009 till 7th March 2010. Throught 100 paintings, the exhibition shows Corot's role as link between past and future, tradition and modernity. Camille Corot has been has been a very influential artist on the first nineteenth century avant-gards such as Impressionism, Fauvism, etc. In spite of been closely tied to seventeenth century tradition and naturalism, Corot, thanks to his research and trips to Italy, was able to develop a very personal style which influenced not only the first generation of Impressionists, but also Fauves, Cubists and even abstract artists like Denis, Sisley, Monet, Renoir, Cezanne, Mondrian, Braque and Picasso. The exhibition has been organized and directed by Vincent Pomérede, director of Painting Department at Louvre Museum, Corot's maximum expert.
