The Heaven has granted her wishes: to die in an important day and, on All Saints day, November 1st, Alda Merini left us.
Eclectic and unpredictable character, sharp and ironic spirit, she has been the most significant poetic voice of the Italian Twentieth Century.
I would like to remember her because it is still clear in me the emotion of the evening on May 17th 2001, when the promoters of the “Poesia in Valpolicella” festival asked me to host her.
I am convinced that a winery should open its doors to host cultural events, being the wine a messanger of culture itself.
Alda Merini was the first remarkable character to enter Villa Spinosa to bring culture.
“Impressive” the evening: lot of people knew the poetess, but that was her first time in Verona and that those people could met her personally.
Her unpredictability stunned everybody: the alternating of ruthless but astute gags, even towards the moderator of that evening; but, what really stunned everybody, was the depth of her thoughts and the inexpressible beauty of her lyrics.
